Sofya for

SVUSD School Board

Area C

I would like to serve on the school board for a number of reasons. I am a mother whose children have been growing up in our district and although they have had a great experience (which I witnessed by volunteering in their classrooms), I know that this is not the case for everyone. I believe that it is time for me to give back to our community in a larger capacity.

As a professor at Cal State LA for 15 years, I believe in the value of public education and want to work with teachers, parents, and our community to ensure that all students receive the high quality education that they deserve.

I also believe in the importance of being involved in local government. Serving on our city's Neighborhood Council #1 and being involved in local issues has given the me tools needed to navigate our public systems.

Please click on the links in the menu above to learn more about me and my priorities.

I would be honored to have your vote and, if elected, I promise to work diligently to ensure that students have a safe environment within which to learn and grow. I will also help develop and support initiatives that can facilitate the success of all of our students so that they are ready for college/careers. Thank you.

Physical and Mental Well-being

College/Career readiness

  • Returning back to school safely

  • Providing resources (such as faster wifi) to support distance learning

  • Easier ways to report bullying

  • If restorative justice does not      work, then stricter consequences

  • Increasing the number of counselors and nurses available

  • Increasing supports for families with children with special needs

  • Implementing evidence-based practices that can help students who are not meeting the standards or graduating

  • Providing opportunities for  mentorships and internships by partnering with local businesses, service agencies, etc.

It takes a teacher to know education.

Thank you to all who donated!
