Dr. B. for
School Board

Area C

It has been an honor to serve on our school board for the past four years. I originally chose to run for office when my time on Simi Valley's Neighborhood Council #1 came to an end because I wanted to continue serving our community. As a mother with two children in our district, I was happy with the education they were receiving and the extracurricular opportunities they could pursue. It is my desire to continue to help in any way that I can toward meeting our district's mission to support ALL students in becoming the best potential versions of themselves.

As a professor at Cal State LA for nearly 20 years, I believe in the value of public education. It has been a privilege to work with our teachers, staff, parents, and community to ensure that all students receive the high quality education that they deserve.  We have successfully implemented policies and programs toward this end and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.

Please click on the links in the menu above to learn more about me, our accomplishments, and my future priorities.

I would be honored to have your vote and, if elected, I promise to continue to work diligently to ensure that students have a safe environment within which to learn and grow.  Thank you.

Board-Related Outcomes Based on Priorities from Previous Campaign

  • Supported and voted to provide resources for distance learning during pandemic (such that all children received updated laptops)

  • Unanimously voted to return to school as soon CA allowed (with safety measures in place such as new vent systems)

  • Supported the hiring of a consultant to review district's safety protocols and provide recommendations

  • Prioritized construction of perimeter fencing and new entry protocols so that all our schools can be safer

  • Supported hiring of more counselors for students (added seven--three HS and four elementary counselors)

  • Advocated for hiring social workers; this led to the first social worker ever employed by a district in Ventura County (currently, we have two and are planning for a third)

  • Advocated for more emphasis on addressing bullying; this led to 1) a streamlining and better advertising of the "We tip" hotline so students and parents can report issues such as bullying and 2) the establishment of a committee at a high school

  • Supported implementation of Professional Learning Community model district-wide so teacher's can teach each other best practices

  • Focused on data-driven decision making

  • Advocated for more focus on CTE programs

  • Supported re-structuring of one District-level Coordinator position so that 50% of their responsibility is now on CTE programs

  • Supported changes toward increasing the number of students fulfilling a-g requirements

  • As part of advocacy for more counselors, hired three college/career counselors
